Q & A with Gary:

Q:  What attracted you to accounting and consulting?

I have known that I wanted to somehow be involved in business my entire life. Then, while I was  obtaining my business degree from Fresno State, I was required to take a couple of accounting classes. I understood the material  right away and realized that accounting was an integral part of business. After that first class I was hooked and decided to pursue accoun-ting.

Q:  Do you have any words of wisdom for up-and-coming accountants?

Get as much experience with different aspects of account- ing as possible and love what you do. The experience will allow you to be more valuable to your co-workers, and the more you love what you do the more people will want to work with you.

Q: What makes working with Torosian & Walter different than other work experiences?

Torosian and Walter allows us to grow as people and accountants. You're never stuck in a particular position or role with no opportunity to take on new challenges at this firm. We also have the opportunity to work with every CPA, including the partners, and learn new things from each and every one of them.

Q:  Where did you grow up? What was it like then and how has it changed?

I grew up in Porterville, CA, a small agriculture town. When I was growing up it was a small town with little to do. We were always forced to go to Fresno or Visalia to have a nice dinner or to do some shopping. Now it has really grown and there are many new local businesses so people aren't forced to go elsewhere for some fun.

Q:  Describe your favorite vacation...

Relaxing on the beach with my family. Sometimes there is nothing better than just laying by the water without a care in the world.

Q:  What are your outside interests?

I'm a little bit of an adrenaline junky. I love to ride my dirt bike, go snowboarding or go out to the lake and do some wake- boarding. It allows me to take my mind off everything else and concentrate on the thrill in front of me.
