Q & A with Cole:
Q: What attracted you to accounting and consulting?
My grandfather is a CPA and has been recommending accounting to me since I was very young. After my first accounting elective in high school I knew this was the profession for me. I love that I can work in a field that is constantly changing and more importantly allows me to help businesses and individuals become more successful.
Q: Do you have any words of wisdom for up-and-coming accountants?
I tried to challenge myself to think of real examples of any concept I learned in school. It not only helped me better understand the concept but better prepared me for things that come up daily now that I am out of school. Also, try as best as possible to understand your clients business and industry.
Q: What makes working with Torosian & Walter different than other work experiences?
Torosian & Walter is such a unique work environment. The people are very helpful and I am constantly impressed by the forward thinking that will really benefit the clients. It is a place that encourages independent thinking and new ideas. They are truly open to any suggestions that will improve the business and the services we can offer our clients.

Getting
personal...
Q: Describe your favorite vacation...
As an avid skier, my dream vacation would be a ski trip to New Zealand, more specifically, a heli-skiing trip. My favorite vacations all revolve around the ski season, and some of the best skiers I know all rave about New Zealand. Conveniently, this ski season there will work well around a tax accountants busy seasons.
Q: What are you outside interests?
Aside from skiing, I am an avid racquetball player. I play at a local gym with numerous other players, and play in leagues and tournaments whenever possible. Other than that I enjoy just about any outdoor activity such as camping and fishing. One of my other favorite activities is watching a San Francisco Giants game.
Q: Who has inspired you in life and why?
Most of my inspiration comes from my family, and with such a large family I have a lot of inspiration. My parents are self-employed so I grew up watching them progress their business far beyond what many thought possible. I am always fascinated by their ability to keep their business at the top of the industry and stay ahead of the competition while keeping enough work/life balance and spend time with all of their family. This is more than I could ever hope for but something I will always work to achieve.
