Q & A with Chase:

Q:  What attracted you to accounting and consulting?

I realized early in life that not only did I have a knack for numbers, I greatly enjoyed working with them.  Accountintg seemed like a practical application of that interest.  My interest in consulting was piqued by a retail position I held from my Junior year in high school to my final semester of college.  I found it very satisfrying to communicate with customers to determine their needs, and then find products to fit those needs.

Q:  Do you have any words of wisdom for up-and-coming accountants?

This is probably true in just about every line of work: someone you work with knows something that you don't.  Seek them out and learn from them.  Not only is it always a good idea to keep learning, the knowledge you gain will bring a feeling of progress and your job from feeling stagnant.

Q: What makes working with Torosian & Walter different than other work experiences?

The emphasis on teamwork.  Obviously every business has one or two small number of goals and in that sense you're part of a team in almost every job.  But here everything from the nature of the work to the design of the office emphasizes teamwork.  I'm constantly in contact with CPAs, accountants, and office staff to take direction and offer input on a variety of tasks.  It increases the quality of the work and keeps things exciting.

Q:  Do you have any nicknames?

"Chad-Chase".  I have an identical twin, his name is Chad, and I am often mistaken for him.  We played several sports when we were younger, all with the same coach.  He could never tell us apart, so if he needed to speak with one of us he would bark both of our names rapidly and then point to the one he wanted to speak with.

Q:  Describe your favorite vacation...

My wife and I went to Europe for three weeks to celebrate our second anniversary.  We spent several days in London, Edinburgh, Paris, and Rome.  I'm not normally the type of guy that gets excited about seeing the sights; I've been known to spend entire vacations on a couch.  But some sights have to be seen.  The Eiffel Tower really is that cool in person, and the Pantheon is probably the most impressive feat of engineering I've ever seen.  And the food...magnifico!

Q:  What are your outside interests?

I'm and avid NFL fan, and my friends recently got me into baseball (go Niners and Giants!).  I get really into following the stats of the players...SURPRISE!  I enjoy exercise and get some form of it 5 or 6 days a week.  I also enjoy unwinding with the escapism provided by a good video game.
