Q: What attracted you to accounting and consulting?

 

What first drew me to accounting was assisting with the bookkeeping in my father’'s business while attending High School.  I loved working with numbers and became fascinated with being able to strategize tax and tax planning when we worked with our CPA. 

 

It was amazing to me how he was able to help not only my father’'s business but other businesses as well.  I knew then, becoming a CPA was the right career for me.

 

Q: What is one area of tax law you would like to see changed?

 

The one area of tax law that I would like to see changed (which is difficult to believe would ever happen) is the employer portion of the Social Security and Medicare tax.  Employer’'s should not have to pay into these taxes!

Q:  Where did you grow up? What was it like then or how has it changed?

I grew up in a small farming community south of Fresno, called Caruthers.  Go Blue! 

The town itself has not changed much, but interestingly, my wife is now a teacher at the same elementary school I attended as a child.

Q:  What are your outside interests?

My number one outside interest is definately my family.  My wife Sandy and I have three children: Elizabeth, Taran, and Gavin.  I also enjoy playing a casual round of golf and am a Fresno State Football Fanatic!  Go Dogs!!!

Q:  Do you have a nickname?

My family nicknamed me "Donny" as a child and the name has stuck to the point where it has almost completely overtaken the usage of my  real first name.
