Q & A with Kamaljit:

Q: What attracted you to accounting and consulting?

Working with numbers is my passion. I enjoyed my math classes during high school and thought of making a career in a profession that involved working with numbers. In high school, my dream was to become an engineer, until I took my first accounting class in a junior college. I found accounting courses more live and interesting as I worked on the real life case scenarios. After taking the accounting courses junior college offered, I knew that accounting is the right profession for me.

Q: Do you have any words of wisdom for up-and-coming accountants?

Be very organized & detail oriented. Accounting requires lot of back up as to what was the issue and how did it get resolved. From making adjusting journal entries to preparation of a tax return, accounting demands organization and detail of the work that was performed.

Q: What makes working with Torosian & Walter different than other work experiences?

T&W has an open door policy. Whenever I get stuck doing my project, I can ask questions from either the partners or CPAs working in the firm. By asking questions and getting answers to those questions immediately helps me to finish my projects on timely basis.

Q: What are your outside interests?

  • Walking and playing with my dogs
  • Watching TV
  • Reading
  • Spending time with my family

Q: Who has inspired you in life and why?

My family would get a credit for this. I am lucky to have such a hard working family and I grew up listening to my parents’ and uncle/aunts’ lifelong lessons of how much hard work they did to reach where they are today. Furthermore, I learned from them to never give up and that my dreams can also be fulfilled by hard work, determination and continuous improvement.

Q: What was the last book you read?

“The Goal- A Process of Ongoing Improvement” by Eliyahu M. Goldratt

A very interesting book about a very hard working manager working in a manufacturing plant and the series of ups and downs he goes through in his effort to eliminate bottleneck in order to improve processes.
